From the earliest times in St. Louis, stores tended to locate along what is now South Broadway. Beginning in 1850, many St. Louis merchants had established branch offices/stores on South Broadway. By 1873, South Broadway was home to a general merchandise store, a grocery store, a four story hotel, an insurance company, the Carondelet Savings Bank, eighteen doctors, four drug stores, two livery stables, an undertaker and a real estate business.
Steins Broadway is keeping with the unique history of the Carondelet neighborhood, rehabbing various parcels along the South Broadway corridor and just west. This area was, at one time, a bustling city street, and is now considered an up-and-coming area of St. Louis with the recent renovations. Join the revival of South Broadway and open a business or second location in one of our rehabilitated historic buildings.
